Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant

Jennifer Grundy ( 9am Service) tell us about her invitation to join the flotilla in the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. The 1000 boats taking part in the flotilla alongside Her Majesty the Queen, have been carefully selected, needing to be the right size to go under London bridges amongst other criteria and needed to have some historic significance or a story to tell. Beatty built in 1937 spent 23 years carrying coal for the Samuel Barlow Coal Company from the Midlands coalfields down the Grand Union and Oxford canals before being converted to a pleasure boat in 1960.

Jennifer writes, “In 1968 my husband and I bought a 70ft narrow boat called ‘Beatty’, and over the course of many years since have been all over the canal system and seen some glorious countryside, and very interesting places with our children. This year we have been invited to represent Merseyside at the Thames Pageant, which is a great honour and we are delighted to be doing so. The Beatty was taken by canal to London during the Easter holidays, and on 3rd June there will be three generations of the Grundy family on the boat, as well as some distinguished guests representing Merseyside. The narrow boat is painted mostly white, so we hope we shall be seen among the 40 narrow boats that are taking part, (five rows of eight boats). It should be a memorable and fun occasion.

Christ’s prayer for his disciples

Everyone needs compassion,
Love that's never failing;
Let mercy fall on me.

Everyone needs forgiveness,
The kindness of a Saviour;
The Hope of nations.

Chorus:
Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
He is Mighty to save.
Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me,
All my fears and failures,
Fill my life again.

I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in,
Now I surrender.
Yes, I surrender

Chorus:
Saviour, He can move the mountains,……
(x2)

Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We're singing for the glory of the risen
King...Jesus (x2)

Repeat Chorus
Shine your light………

O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works thy hand hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;

Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

When through the woods and forest glades I wander
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
and hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;
Refrain

And when I think that God his Son not sparing,
Sent him to die - I scarce can take it in,
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin:
Refrain

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home- what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!
Refrain
