Fairtrade at St.Bartholomews.Recently you
may have noticed that a group focusing on Fair Trade has been formed at Roby.
The group has set itself a number of goals, the main thrust of which is to
provide information to enable members of our church to make an informed choice.
At the recent visit of the Archdeacon to St. John’s Knotty Ash, the group
presented a summary of their initial progress to the churchwardens and sides
people of the deanery. We were then blown away by the challenging sermon. The
Archdeacon stated quite clearly that once we, as Christian’s, were made aware of
injustices around the world, we should consider it our duty to do all we could
to support the Fair Trade Movement. He boldly stated that if we didn’t do this,
we were actually making an informed choice NOT to support Fair Trade.
Scripture gives guidance on our rights and responsibilities, one reference in particular
spells it out - There are many texts that are relevant but the one that sums it
up best for me personally is Proverbs 31 v 8-9 “speak up for the people who
If you feel you would like to do something positive, please speak to a member of the Fair Trade Group. We have tried to encompass what is a vast range of issues by focusing on. We can only do so much, the more people who are on board, the more we can do.
